Privacy Policy
This describes what SyllabusMap actually does with your data — in plain language, matching what the app itself tells you at the point of use. No boilerplate clauses for things this app doesn't do.
Your syllabus file
PDFs are read locally in your browser — the file itself is never uploaded anywhere. Only the extracted text is sent to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to identify assignments, dates, and weights. That text isn't stored after the response comes back, beyond a short-lived cache keyed to the exact text (so re-uploading the same syllabus doesn't spend a second AI call). If the AI service is unavailable, extraction falls back to a parser that runs entirely in your browser and never leaves your device.
Where your plan data lives
If you're not signed in, your courses, assignments, and settings are saved only to this browser's local storage — we never see them, and clearing your browser data erases them (export a backup first if you want to keep it). If you sign in, that same data syncs to a database row that only your account can read or write; we use Supabase, and access is enforced with row-level security, not just app-level checks.
Signing in
We use magic-link email sign-in — no password to store or leak. Supabase sets an authentication cookie so you stay signed in between visits; we don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies of any kind.
Payments
Payments are handled entirely by Stripe Checkout. We never see or store your card number — Stripe tells our server whether a payment succeeded, and we record only the resulting plan and its expiration date against your account.
Analytics
We log a small set of product events (like loading the planner, starting an upload, or reaching checkout) to understand what's working, tied to an anonymous id stored in your browser — not to a third-party ad or analytics network. We don't use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any similar tracker. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may log the request (including your IP address) the way any font or image request from any website does.
Your controls
Export a full backup of your data as a file at any time, or delete everything, from the Courses tab in the planner. Deleting your data removes it from our database immediately, not just from view.
